This term Friday afternoons see a new range of enrichment opportunities for the children. Over the next few months all the children will do music with Mrs Thornton, PE with Miss Simpson and cooking with Mrs Brabant. Our first session saw Class 1 making fun fruit faces whilst Classes 2 and 3 got active outdoors and created their own tunes on the computers. A great way to end a busy week of learning.
We believe that residential experiences are an invaluable part of a child’s education and as such we provide these opportunities from they very first year of school. Spending time away form home, learning new skills and taking more responsibility for yourself all support our Reception – Year 2: For the first three years at Clifton School children are invited to an overnight sleepover in the Summer term. An evening meal, outdoor activities, camp fire, sleeping in the classrooms and breakfast with friends all help make our Infant sleepover a favourite with children and staff and is always a night to […]
Our new Reception children came for their 4 morning sessions during the summer term and were helped to settle in by their buddies from Year 5 and 6. Over the coming year they will all become great friends who are very important(…)
Our Pirate Party was a great end to this summer’s topic on islands. The children and staff all came dressed as pirates and spent the day making pirate decorations, walking the planks and (…)
We were very excited by Ethan’s Show and Tell at the end of term. Luckily for us his mum and dad brought in some tropical sea creatures for us to look at. There were clown fish, corals, sea urchins, star fish and crabs…..one even looked like a spider!
The children have been so enthusiastic about their osprey work and were very proud to present their fact files to Phil Cheesley from The Lake District Osprey Project at the end of term. He was also treated to a rousing version of the osprey song they had learned with Mrs Thornton which they had previously performed for Class 1 in the school garden. Click here to hear the song for yourself.
For our PE lessons this half term we have have been using the balance bikes with Lucy from The Sports Partnership. We have now got three of our own balance bikes but Lucy brings along enough for everyone to have one. For those children who can already ride a bike independently Lucy has also been teaching Class 1 some tennis skills.
We were so lucky with the weather this year and ate both our evening meal and breakfast outdoors – a first in the history of Clifton’s Infant Sleepover. The children enjoyed a party tea before getting going on a range of activities including teambuilding games, osprey nest building, making bird feeders and woodcrafts with Dave Corrie. As the sun went down our campfire was lit and it was time for songs, hot chocolate and marshmellows! No wonder everyone was ready for bed and a good night’s sleep. After breakfast and games it was time to pack up your own camping […]
Class 2 had a once in a lifetime experience on 1 December when they had a 40 minute conversation with a dutch scientist based in Antarctica. The children had thought of lots of questions beforehand and found out all about the wildlife in the Antarctic and what it is like living in such an extreme environment.
As part of our global education all of the children have been learning about ospreys during the summer term and in particular the ospreys that live at Bassenthwaite in the summer and in Western Africa in the winter months. The older children have compared the two habitats and have created food chains for ospreys whilst the younger children have learned about the features of ospreys that make them such amazing creatures. They even made an osprey nest at the Infant Sleepover. We have made a display outside outside Class 1 where you can find out more about ospreys. To help […]
