Welcome to our Class 1 page.
This class is taught by Mrs Brabant and Mrs Chalmers. Our Reception and Year 1 children are all taught in Class 1. We have good levels of adult support in class which means both year groups can be taught phonics and maths in small groups and we can address each child’s individual needs to help them make good progress.
We provide children with opportunities to develop essential skills for learning including; collaboration, creativity, curiosity, imagination, independence, resilience and resourcefulness.
We follow the Read Write Inc scheme to teach phonics, reading and spelling. This is a very successful program which aims to get children reading and writing quickly and in an enjoyable child friendly way.
We believe that the classroom environment has a direct impact on a child’s development. In Class 1 we provide the following areas where children can work independently; a writing corner, computer area, craft area, role play corner, reading corner and spaces devoted to construction and imaginative play.
Our outdoor covered play area has a sand pit, sand kitchen, water play, chalk boards, gravel pit, writing shed and themed equipment and activities that change depending on our topic.
We believe that children will want to learn when the topic interests them so, although we broadly follow the whole school topics we split them into more distinct half termly topics that cover a range of popular themes. These include; pirates, nursery rhymes, dinosaurs, transport, sharks, space and superheroes – to name a few!
We run a parent/toddler group for all children from 2 years old on Mondays in the Spring and Summer term from 2.45 –3.30. So why not pop along to see our classroom and meet the staff. ( This has not happened this year dur to Covid 19 but we hope to resume it as soon as we can.)
