As part of our global education all of the children have been learning about ospreys during the summer term and in particular the ospreys that live at Bassenthwaite in the summer and in Western Africa in the winter months.

The older children have compared the two habitats and have created food chains for ospreys whilst the younger children have learned about the features of ospreys that make them such amazing creatures. They even made an osprey nest at the Infant Sleepover.

We have made a display outside outside Class 1 where you can find out more about ospreys.

To help us understand more about ospreys all the children visited The Lake District Osprey Project near Keswick. The younger children visited Whinlatter Forest where they watched video footage of the osprey nest and played osprey games whilst the older children visited Dodd Wood where they met Phil Cheesley from LDOP and looked for ospreys from both viewpoints.

Class 2 worked with Mrs Thornton to make osprey fact-files that were presented to Phil from LDOP when he visited the school and was treated to an osprey song they had learned. The fact-files will be displayed in the classroom at Whinlatter and will be given to children visiting the osprey viewpoint this summer.
