Clifton Primary School Governors
My name is Mike Charlton. I had been a teacher from 1981 until retirement in 2014. At the end of my career I was the Joint Head of
Science at QEGS Penrith. My specialisms are Biology and IT. Throughout my career I was an active member of the NUT supporting members when they had issues in their jobs eg redundancies. I am still a Casework officer for the NEU (NUT Section). I am also a keen amateur photographer particularly of landscapes and wildlife.

I have lived in the village since 2008 with my husband Joe and my 2 children, Liam and Lewis, who attend the school. I also have an older daughter Lauren and a grandson Charlie. I am currently the secretary of the school’s PTA and I am often seen helping with Clubs, Outdoor Education and fundraising events. Previously I worked as a Technician at the University of Cumbria and prior to that I worked for a company providing alternative education to disaffected children, helping them back into mainstream education. I believe Clifton is a lovely school and I am pleased to be a part of its governing team.
Nicola Simpson is a member of our teaching staff and has worked at Clifton School for 11 years. She currently teaches Year 4,5 and 6 and has curriculum responsibility for maths and PE.
I am a parent governor and have two children at Clifton school. When my oldest child started in 2013, I spent time in Class 1 listening to individual readers and my interest in the school and in wider education grew from there. I was delighted to be welcomed on to the governing body in 2015.
I have been self employed for many years, running an aquatics pet shop with my partner in Plumpton. I am currently undertaking a PGCE in Primary Education.
