PE

Sport plays a fundamental part in the life of Clifton Primary school and we pride ourselves on our ability to engage and encourage children to participate in a wide range of sports and extra-curricular clubs either out of school hours or at lunch time. We also provide opportunities for our children to flourish in a range of different physical activities such as Horse Riding, Fell walking and Swimming. The PE curriculum is carefully planned to ensure progression and depth as well as opportunities to participate in wider sporting events.

Teaching and non-teaching staff hold a variety of coaching awards and have a vast range of experience in the teaching of Physical Education. We also work closely with external sports coaches such as Penrith Hockey Club as part of our PE programme, ensuring that our children have access to a very high standard of PE.

Our links with the Eden Valley Sports Partnership, Action Ants and other local schools enable us to participate in a comprehensive fixture list throughout the year. These sporting competitions include: High 5 Netball, Football, Rugby, Hockey, Cross Country, Cricket, Gymnastics, Swimming, Multi-Skills, Orienteering, Athletics and many more.  Some of these competitions lead on to District – Eden and County – Cumbria competitions. We ensure that all children have the chance to attend these events. We also hold our own competitive events annually: a swimming gala, a sports week and a sports day. Our aim is to empower children to become passionate about sport and to give all children opportunities to take part in healthy competition enabling them to develop a sporting presence in both victory and defeat.

Sport Leaders within school help to organise, lead and coach sporting clubs and events during the school year club. We offer a wide range of lunch and after school clubs such as; football, netball, hockey, multi-skills, rugby, running, dance and basketball.

We continue to celebrate the success of past pupils, who are on the pathway to becoming professional in their field and use this to inspire ambition. We continuously encourage our talented athletes to join local and county clubs.
