Sport at Clifton
Sport plays a fundamentally important part in the life of our school and we pride ourselves on our ability to engage and encourage pupils to participate in a range of sports.
Teaching and non-teaching staff hold a variety of coaching awards and have a vast range of experience in the teaching of Physical Education. We also work closely with visiting sports coaches as part of our PE programme, ensuring that our children have access to a very high standard of PE.
Our links with the Eden Valley Sports Partnership and other local schools enable us to participate in a comprehensive fixture list throughout the year. In addition we hold our own competitive events annually: a swimming gala, a sports week and a sports day.
The value of camaraderie and teamwork cannot be understated and we foster this even further through our house system. Clifton School players in all teams have a respect for one another, their opponents and referees and feel a pride in their performance. In this sense of pride, of course, they are not alone! We have frequent comments about how well our pupils represent their school. Above all we hope we enthuse and build confidence in our pupils.
We have a range of after school and lunch time clubs including: football, netball, rugby, hockey, running, dodgeball, gymnastics, dance, athletics, rounders and many more.
We have followed the success of our past pupils. Clifton’s footballers, dancers, runners, rugby players have gone on to compete at all levels, from county meets to national trials. We continuously encourage our talented athletes to join local and county clubs with which we have strong links with to develop their talents further.
